This years guest was Kaba Modern, whom you may know from Americas Best Dance Crew, but I missed out because I had to run off to Resonances epic 10th anniversary concert. Okay, there was some quality a cappella, too. Fortunately for a cappella lovers, there are a few more concerts left in the year. This semester, the Chorallaries decided to observe MITs 150th anniversary on their spring concert posters by costuming themselves in styles from different decades, and I got to shoot for them! It turns out theyre as skillful at modeling as they are at keeping four-part harmonies. So if you happened to see a group of barefoot, tie-dyed tree huggers sprawling in front of 77 Mass Ave, or a few dashing gentlemen holding stiff Napoleonesque poses for a daguerreotype, that was just us. Jones Case Study Scenario 1: Since it seems like the Jones’ are set on having a family and that family is important to them this scenario will focus more on what could be best for them to do to make sure their family life is stable. In this scenario it seems to me that Jim needs to find a job closer to home that maybe works him a little less. He has stated that he would like to spend more time with his son and that could be achieved by working closer to home. Also moving to a bigger city will also mean that they will have to find new child care which may cost more, another home which will cost more and Jim will have to definitely find another job which could put a strain on the marriage if he is unsuccessful or if he is making considerably less that she is. I see the best outcome with this scenario if Jim can find a job closer to home in order to spend more time with his son and also find a change of pace with his job. Lisa would need to stick with her current position in order to make having a bigger family more attainable for the moment. Scenario 2: If Jim and Lisa put a priority on being financially secure and more so value Lisa’s career then these are some options they might consider. First off Lisa would definitely need to take the promotion and they would move to Atlanta. This would be great because they would definitely have enough money for their home as well as childcare. They would also have more financial security and would be better able to save for things like their kids education and retirement since Lisa is now making more money than both of them were combined. If Jim also found another job they would be very secure financially and potentially with the move it might open up more job options for Jim and he may find something that he enjoys more. Moving to a bigger city also opens up the options for better childcare and better education for their children in the future should their family grow. However as mentioned in the last scenario this may put a strain on the marriage if Jim is unsuccessful in finding another job. Also this new job for Lisa will probably mean more hours at work and less time with the family. It will probably also mean not having another child for quite sometime and maybe never depending on what her new roles are at her job. The family might definitely have to be put on the backburner for a little while as the transition occurs. Scenario 3: This scenario would be kind of an extreme mix of the two previous scenarios. Since Jim has stated that he wants to spend more time with their son he could possibly become a stay at home dad. Lisa could take the job in Atlanta, which would definitely make more than enough money to support a family of three especially since they could cut childcare costs. Some cons to this situation however would be that they would have to overcome the social stigma of having the wife work and the dad stay at home. That would be the biggest challenge in my opinion. Especially if Jim started to feel like his worth had been diminished. This could definitely put a strain on the marriage. Also Lisa would have to deal with turning over her motherly duties somewhat and spend less time with the family. She would also probably not be able to have kids anytime soon as well but if they decided to at least this way she wouldn’t have to take as much time off since Jim would be home tending to the new child. Jim could also start up some type of business he could run at home. This would allow him to feel like he is contributing to the family income but also spend time with the kids. Reflection: This assignment is a good preparation for big decisions that we all make in our lives. One thing that it shows is that there are many possible solutions to any problem and that we must look at the risks and rewards with each and decides which is best for our own unique family situation. These decisions would be much easier for a family with no children vs. family that already has 3 or 4 kids. If my wife and I were presented with the same situation I would think that we would follow scenario 1 the closest since family is most important to us. Neither of us are really looking to make a lot of money and for myself I wouldn’t mind being a stay at home dad. My wife may object but I love kids and spending time with them and if my wife was offered a job that paid a lot of money, enough to support a family, and it was something that she wanted to do and was passionate about I would like to think that I would support her in doing that. Every family is different though and needs to meet different needs so there is no wrong or right way to go about this. I personally believe that family should always come first but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to spend a lot of time with them. I think it is important though that you are there for your spouse or your kids when they need you and that you are there to support them in the things that they do. Vive never wanted something so bad, and I was determined to get it. I did everything I possibly could. I did everything from talking to him about giving me another chance to praying to God. Nothing seemed to work. Nothing changed, and no progress was made. I was completely torn apart. It was eating me alive.I always fight my own battles until I win, and the fact that this situation was one I couldnt win, really hurt. It hurt because it mattered. Since I am a genuinely happy and positive person, I still havent given up on him. I will continue to try, because I know this is what I want and need, and I will never give up. Time in A Tree Rhetorical Analysis The text that is being analyzed is a music video of ‘Time in a Tree’ by Raleigh Ritchie. In Raleigh’s interview about this song he made, he states that Time in A Tree is about needing some peace. Some respite, some time away from your own mind. The ways that you can get in your own way on the way to those things. Its about the fear of not being deserving of happiness, or that youre not doing enough to get the kind of happiness you want. Its about needing validation and confirmation that youre loved and supported when youre struggling. Its about needing time in a tree, like a kid off the ground and halfway in the sky. The video starts off with some elevator music as Raleigh walks into an elevator while holding a small tree. It proceeds with a mother and her toddler song while he talks about how he remembers his childhood and how he would like to go back to that time again while he is climbing a tree. â€Å"Time in A Tree† serves as a metaphor for seeking out a sense of escapism; a little bit of peace from the noise around you and in your mind. This song is basically about finding peace in yourself and adult anxiety. The anxiety levels that many people go through in their lives. Basically, you are revisiting the traumas you experienced when you were younger and thinking about how they shaped you as a person you are today. This song is mostly about Pathos; it has a lot of emotional appeals. It talks about how his nostalgia when he was a kid and talking about his anxiety. The sole purpose of this music video is to remind people that it is okay to sit back by yourself and relax to find your peace. Another Pathos in this song is the verse â€Å"What a state, I get wound up, from the ground up, And I don’t know why. Turn the sound up, drown the noise out,. Swallow (whoa), don’t cry†, it is about him using avoidance as a coping mechanism. Another ethos text would be, â€Å"Most days I strugg le, and I get snappy. Fuck all that, I just wanna be happy†, is about being happy no matter what; you can be happy when you are doing things that make you happy. There is so much emotion in this song, especially because this song was written in a span of two days. His description of happiness is being able to accept yourself and accepting other people around you. Being able to accept yourself for who you are is such a big step in life, because then you do not have to worry about what others have to say about you and how they will always find a way to break you down. The scenes in the actual music video shows some evidence on how and why he needs some peace. There is a scene in the elevator where he is being crowded by music producers and it shows him looking frustrated and eventually screaming at them to leave him alone for now. The next scene is him trying to stop, what looks like his younger self, from leaving and ending up hugging while he sings the verse â€Å"I†™m needy, greedy, love me, feed me, let’s be a family. It’ll take a village to make a man of me. So why couldn’t you love me? It’s all I need†. In that scene it is really emotional because you literally see the younger version of Raleigh crying after being hugged by the present Raleigh, but young Raleigh still leaves the present-day Raleigh by himself in the elevator. Raleigh realizes that he needs to let people in, he needs to let people take care of him. Trying to do everything by yourself can mentally and physically drain you because you are only relying on yourself without accepting help from others. It is like all the thoughts you are having because of the anxiety is slowly being thrown at you and you do not know how to deal with it. As someone who struggles with anxiety, this is the most accurate description for anxiety. Dealing with anxiety is something that most people have suffered with, so his credibility to explaining it is quite accurate. Sometimes you just want to keep running from these problems because you do not know how to deal with it and how to fix it. He also references Billy Joe’s song â€Å"Viennaâ €™, and how it is about how he can do all of this, but not all at once. Just take it one step at a time. You do not have to rush all these things, because if you do, you might become drained and lose motivation. The verse â€Å"I’ve seen things that I never should have seen. Facts and Characteristics of Rodents Rodents (Rodentia) are a group of mammals that includes squirrels, dormice, mice, rats, gerbils, beavers, gophers, kangaroo rats, porcupines, pocket mice, springhares, and many others. There are  more than 2000 species of rodents alive today, making them the most diverse of all mammal groups.  Rodents are a widespread group of mammals, they occur in most terrestrial habitats and are only absent from Antarctica,  New Zealand, and a handful of  oceanic islands. Rodents have teeth that are specialized for chewing and gnawing. They have  one pair of incisors in each jaw (upper and lower)  and a large gap (called a diastema) located between their incisors and molars. The incisors of rodents grow continuously  and are maintained through constant use- grinding and gnawing wears away the tooth so that is always sharp and remains  the correct length. Rodents also have one or multiple pairs of premolars or molars (these teeth, also called cheek teeth, are  located towards the back of the animals upper and lower jaws). What They Eat Rodents eat a variety of different foods including leaves, fruit, seeds, and small invertebrates. The cellulose rodents eat is processed in a structure called the  caecum. The caecum is a pouch in the digestive tract that houses bacteria that are capable of breaking down tough plant material into digestible form. Key Role Rodents often play a key role in the communities in which they live because they serve as prey for other mammals and birds. Nora's final exit away from all her traditional social obligations is the most famous dramatic statement in fictional depictions of this struggle, and it helped to turn Ibsen (with or without his consent) into an applauded or vilified champion of women's rights and this play into a vital statement which feminists have repeatedly invoked to further their cause. So in reading responses to and interpretations of this play, one frequently comes across statements like the following: Patriarchy's socialization of women into servicing creatures is the major accusation in Nora's painful account to Torvald of how first her father, and then he, used her for their amusement. . . how she had no right to think for herself, only the duty to accept their opinions. Loneliness of Curley’s wife Essay

The author never tells us the name of Curley’s wife in the novel, which could be for many reasons. E. g. she wasn’t important enough or even because she was a woman. But I think it was because she was regarded as one of Curley’s possessions, and because of this everyone approached her with haste. They were all afraid of Curley and didn’t want any bother from him so they left her alone. They didn’t speak to her and ignored her most of the time which could after a while make a person very lonely and feel unwanted. She didn’t like this so she tried to do something about it. She put on attractive clothes, and was heavily made up with full rouged lips and widely spaced eyes. Fingernails painted red and hair in little clusters like sausages. Obviously she wanted to attract some attention from the workers on the ranch, she just wanted somebody to notice her. But as in doing this she is labelled ‘a tart’ and ‘jailbait’. George doesn’t see past the outer cover when she comes back and sees a woman trying to get someone arrested or killed, so he strictly warns Lenny to keep away from her. Another reason for Curley’s wife’s loneliness could have been that she was the only woman on the ranch so she has no other female to gossip to, and all the men are ignoring her so she has absolutely nobody on the ranch to chat with except Curley. Curley isn’t a good husband as he regards her mainly as a possession and not his wife, and therefore doesn’t treat her all that well. He is one of the main reasons that she feels so unhappy. He forces his wife to stay at home alone every day as he forbids her to leave the house in fear that she might go and stray off with one of the ranch workers. He himself is not all that loyal either as he visits brothels with the other men at the end of the month even though he is married. She admits to us when chatting with Lenny that she doesn’t love Curley. She only married him because of her mother. She had met a film producer that had said he was going to put her in the movies, and when the letter didn’t come from him she thought her mother had stolen it. So she moved of and married Curley maybe as a way to get revenge on her mother. Whereas it is more likely that the man wasn’t a film producer and probably wanted just to get her to sleep with him. When talking with Lenny she also tells him all the things she wanted in her life. She wanted to wear nice clothes, stay in big hotels, have pictures taken of her and to be an actress. She even hinted that she was going to leave Curley someday by saying ‘maybe I will someday’ when talking about an acting career. Curley’s wife seems awfully lonely and gets great pleasure out of talking with Lenny in the barn. She even lets him stroke her hair causing a great ruckus and eventually leading to her violent death. But it was instantaneous and when Candy looked at her body he saw that her face was sweet and young. She hadn’t a care in the world. All the ache for attention and discontent were gone from her face and she was finally at peace. I personally don’t think she is the cause of all the trouble because she was only seeking a bit of company. She hardly talked to anyone on the ranch for ages and when she finally gets the chance, you can’t blame her for wanting to take it. It maybe is a bit her fault as she let Lenny stroke her hair, but she didn’t know what he was going to do when he wouldn’t let go and started to panic. She did initially get Lenny killed but I don’t think she did it intentionally as she speaks no desire to get herself killed. It is a bit of everybody’s fault, if the men had spoken to her she may not have wanted to go into the barn with Lenny and therefore not have been killed. As the movement gained momentum so did the demand for birth control, sex education, family planning and the repeal of all abortion laws. On January 22, 1973 the Supreme Court handed down the Roe v. Wade decision which declared abortion fundamental right.† The ruling recognized the right of the individual â€Å"to be free from unwanted governmental intrusion into matters so fundamentally affecting a person as the right of a woman to decide whether or not to terminate her pregnancy.† (US Supreme Court, 1973) This federal-level ruling took effect, legalizing abortion for all women nationwide.
